Hi! My name is Gretchen, and I am a high school senior as well as a Girl Scout Ambassador. I live in New York on Long Island, and I enjoy acting in plays and musicals, as well as vocal and dance performance. I am a certified lifeguard and an avid snowboarder.
I have created A Sunny Tuesday In September as part of my Girl Scout Gold Award project, but also because it is near and dear to my heart.
My mission: Educate my generation on the events of 9/11 so we can truly never forget.
My dad was an FDNY firefighter in Manhattan, who was working on September 11, 2001. His firehouse was assigned to the World Trade Center in the rescue efforts. In a big twist of fate, my father miraculously survived by being in the wrong place, at the right time.

My dad was an FDNY firefighter in Manhattan, who was working on September 11, 2001. His firehouse was assigned to the World Trade Center in the rescue efforts. In a big twist of fate, my father miraculously survived by being in the wrong place, at the right time.
I didn't learn the true details of the September 11th tragedy until I was thirteen. After the initial shock wore off, I realized that my generation, born after 2001, will never understand the full impact that day had on New Yorkers.
I decided to tell the story to my peers who may have not have been exposed to the story, or would like to learn more.
A Sunny Tuesday In September tells the history behind the World Trade Center, details of how 9/11/01 unfolded, and the impact it still has on many people today.
It is targeted at middle schoolers but can be geared towards any group that is learning to understand the events of that fateful day.
